About

Through dance, storytelling and ritual performance, I am passionate about invoking the Divine Mother for our collective empowerment and transformation.

I was greatly influenced by Gandhi’s journey of personal and social transformation, and knew early on this would parallel my own journey. As a woman my personal transformation has come through embodied devotion to the Goddess. My own spiritual empowerment through my body and sexuality has inspired my art and creative life.

I was very touched by the poverty I saw in India at a young age. My desire to see a more equal world led me to study Economics and Politics at New York University. I was living in New York City during 9/11, and the wars that followed. 9/11 woke me up to many political realities, one of which was that poverty is a global political issue. This led me to get my Masters in International Political Economy at the London School of Economics to better understand the politics of money in the global economy.

Simultaneous to my studies, my desire to see change in the world led me into social movement organizing. I was trained in a model of organizing that came out of the 1950’s and 60’s US civil rights, women’s and student movements. I spent six years working at the local, national and international level to curb the growth of large corporations and their tendencies to exacerbate global inequality and poverty. I was most passionate about directing a National Campaign in India to resist the entry of Wal-Mart and the rise of corporate takeover of small shops and farmers.

Working and studying in the field of political economy for 10 years, quickly burnt me out, as I forgot about my spiritual roots.   I went looking for a more integrated way to create the change I was so passionate for.  I reconnected to my knowings as a young child, that the change had to start from within me. Through devotion to the Goddess, I connected to the ancient teachings of Tantra as a path of women’s empowerment.  This opened me up to my body, sexuality and creative life.

Embodied devotion to the Goddess is at the source of my creative life and teachings.  Through dance, somatic movement, dream work, vocal exploration and story telling, my passion is to bring back the mythology and energy of the Divine Feminine to the stage and in workshops.  I am currently performing in my one-woman show, Devadasi: A Story of Sex, Power and Devotion.  A story of empowerment, born out of devotion and dedicated to the Great Mother Goddess, Kali.
